What McCain's Campaign Should Do

McCain is fueling the McSame fire. He continues to say Obama doesn't have good judgment, continues to say Obama doesn't have good experience, yet does not support his argument in any way aside from drilling in hackneyed comments that Obama opposed the surge and hasn't been to Iraq enough with troops. The reason he should be stealing votes from Obama is the same reason that he's unable to: Obama has nothing on his resume.

Because of Obama's lack of actions and decisions, McCain has little with which to negatively criticize Obama. In a traditional campaign, a candidate down in the polls usually needs to attack his opponent vehemently to bring his opponent down as opposed to bringing himself up. So I now understand why McCain's campaign is so unsuccessful. As McCain is bashing Obama on his lack of anything, voters are realizing that Obama has nothing on which to be bashed, so McCain's strategy is backfiring.

If he wants to win the presidency, McCain needs to avoid Obama at all costs. McCain's responses to Obama's statements are pathetic and aren't any less vague than those of Obama. Ironically, McCain needs to employ the unconventional strategy that has caused him to lose in previous elections. McCain needs to stop attacking Obama. Instead, he needs to evidence his experience by creating nuanced policies and releasing them to the public on issues that are not (too) controversial to his party--such as foreign policy and the economy. Even with the same or slightly worse foreign policy plan than that of Obama, McCain would evidence that his good experience is guiding him to make good decisions. In the process of doing so he would also evidence the differences between him and the 13%-approved President. By releasing his plan before Obama's, he'll get more media attention and when Obama counters with a similar plan, McCain can pull out the "copycat" card and play it in a way that makes a direct correlation between good experience as a precursor to good judgement. McCain needs to take a lesson from Hillary and realize that as long as Obama calls the shots and can look down on McCain for McCain's foolish attacks, he will not win the Oval Office.
